CD Projekt Red stated this week that it would postpone the current-gen updates for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S versions of the game previously lacked release dates, but we now know they will not arrive this year. Rather than that, release dates have been scheduled during the first and second quarters of 2022.

The announcement of the delayed upgrades for several of CD Projekt Red’s most popular titles was revealed in a new report from the company on Wednesday. There was no specific explanation provided for the delay other than that the upgrades for each of the games take longer to finish.

“The Company’s Management Board announces that, based on suggestions from development supervisors, it has decided to devote extra time to both projects,” the report said. “At the moment, the Company plans to release a next-generation version of Cyberpunk 2077 in the first quarter of 2022 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the second quarter of 2022.”

Cyberpunk 2077’s roadmap, which was published on January 13th, initially teased the update that would offer PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S users their own version of the game. CD Projekt Red said that the update would be free for people who already own the game on earlier platforms, although delivery dates were not specified at the time. According to the Cyberpunk FAQ, the aim was always the second half of 2021.

Similarly, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen – or current-gen – editions were revealed late last year. At the time, a sample of the updated version of the game was released, and we subsequently discovered that the game would also get DLC inspired by Netflix’s The Witcher.

“Developed to take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware available, the next-generation edition of the game will include a variety of visual and technical enhancements — including ray tracing and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all DLC,” DC Projekt Red said. “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available as a single purchase on PC, Xbox One X, and PlayStation 5, as well as a free upgrade for existing PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 owners.”

No specific release dates have been revealed for the two games’ upgrades.
